Mission: To enhance the interest in the study of gems and minerals and to educate people to the wonders of the lapidary arts. To promote a better knowledge of nautural earth science and to protect our natural resources. Established in the 1960's with members from all 50 states, and many foreign countries.
General Meeting March 6, 2008 
 
The meeting was called to order by Club President Alva Richardson at 2:00PM,. 
Roll Call of officers & Trustees was completed with all Board Members Present 
Vice President Jack Durlin led the Club In a moment of silence for our troops and the Flag Salute,. 
President Richardson encouraged Club Members to greet one another then recognized and welcomed Guests, Visitors, a.nd New Members,. 
Secretary's Report_ was read and approved.
Treasurer's Report_ was read approved and flied for Audit 
In addition Harry gave the final report of Pow Wow Ticket Sales and expenses for the 2007·2008 season which gave the club a net gain of 3,771.00 
Installation Ceremony for New Board Members was completed by Ernie Abbott. 
Those installed for the New Year were: President Tom White, Vice President  Bill Stiglich, Secretary  Bobbie Burke. Treasurer Hany Cleveland. and Trustee Terry Paulsen. In addition Ernie thanked the past Officers for their service and dedication to the Club. 

Instructor's Reports: 

Lapidary-Joe reported he did not have complete count but at least 90 used the Shop. Please tun in your keys to Joe before you leave. Joe needs rock donations for next year to make Clock Faces. Please see him if you have rock for this project. Joe also requested all rocks you have left at the shop for cutting be picked up as soon as possible. 
Orientation-Jim stated no one showed up for orientation on Thursday Morning and there will be no further orientation classes until Fall. He thanked his many Volunteers for their service of Orienting 326 members this season, Jim also thanked the New Board for their willingness to serve and continue keeping the club the best in the country and beyond. 
Beginning Faceting-Bob reported there were 9 In class last week Next Mondays class is a fulL He also thanked all of Faceting instructors for their work as 500 members have gone through classes to date. 
Intermediate Faceting-Opie had 8 in the Tue/Wed Intermediate Class. 2 in Intro to faceting, 9 in Open and 15 at the Saturday Matinee, March 8th Matinee will be at 1 :30 entitled Remember the Main KYD. If you don't kow what KYD is ask Opie and bring a notebook to the class .. 
Wire Wrapping-Ted reported 10 in classes this week There will be 2 more Open Monday Classes and 2 more 'Wednesday classes which will not be open to beginners, 
Chain Making- Pattie had 8 in class and next week is last class until fall. 
Silversmith Orientation-Ron had no one showed up for orientation so there will be no more classes offered until fall unless at least 2 people sign up, 100 used the Silver shop this week, 
Casting-Terry Paulsen had 2 in class last Friday and 1 in Wax Casting Terry also reported a problem with the Torch Head causing a flash back and an Instrucror's hand was burned, He requested new torch as soon as possible.
Opal-No report but Erine belived there were 15 in class last week.
Carving-Linda had 4 in her class. 
Knapping-Ernie reported 5 in class last week and classes will continue until March 26th, Since the participation has increased Ernie will consider offering 2 classes next fall. 
Bead Making- No Report 

Committee Report's 

Sunshine-Iola gave a reading and reported there were no cards sent last week. Please let Iter know if a Club Member needs a card sent 

Wagon Master-Russll's trip to the Brown Banded Rhyolite site had 10 cars 18 people and 8 States represented. Next Tuesday will be the Cook Out at Celia's Garden so there will be no rook trip, March 18th will be the next trip and wilt be to Earp for Purple/Jasper Agate. Earp trip will leave from the North Location by the Fire Station. Russ also asked fur volunteer leaders to help with rock trips. 

4 Wheel Drive Trips--Harry reported 11 car, 25 Members, 10 states, and 4 dogs went on the trip to the 4 Peaks area, Many beautiful wild flowers were enjoyed by trip members. The next trip is Wednesday March 12 to the Southern Cross Mine area, Meet at the shop at 8:30AM and leave at 9AM, This will be the last trip for the year. 

Cookouts--John's next Cook Out is Tuesday March 11th at Celia's Garden with the club providing Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, Set up Volunteers are to meet at shop at 9:00AM.,. John will have a sign up list in the Dinning Room for additional Cook Out helpers 

Pancake Breakfast- No Report. Pancake Breakfast will be Saturday March 15th, 

Highway clean up--Gene Stated Clean Up will be this Saturday March 8th at 9:00AM on Highway 95 at Mile Marker 99, There are 21 people signed up to help and coffee and donuts will be provided. Please bring gloves. 

Scholarship-Peggy reported Scholarships recipients will be present at next week Meeting to receive their Scholarships. The Treasurer will send check directly to College of students choice when he receives their College Student Number, 

Claims- Tom requested a volunteer for the Chair of this committee as all paperwork must be sent into the State by September, Please see Tom if you are willing to help on this committee.

Membership-Jean reported 4 new Members, 2 renewals, (or a current total of 836 members. Last year at this time there were 765 m.embers .. 

Pow Wow- Bill reported next years Committee is already working to assure a successful year for 2008-2009 Pow Wow, Lloyd and Linda are working on Tickets Booklets, Jim & Carol will chair Demonstration Tent, Pauline and Dee wiUhelp with prizes and displays. More volunteers are needed please see Bill. 

Shop Projects-- Ernie requested help with 2 shop projects they would like to finish this season. First Bob would like 4 members to help put the Old Firehouse Roof on this Saturday at 9:00PM. Please report to .Bob Dodson and bring a latter if you have one. Second Project is getting the Shops Parking Lot ready for the Grader, Joe needs 4 helpers on Saturday and 4 helpers on Sunday also at 9:00PM.. Joe's helpers will be pulling water hoses around the parking lot to wet down the ground to keep dust to a minimum. He also need waters on Monday to follow the Grader and spray ground as grader works and createsdust.. Please report to Joe. Shop parking lot will be closed on Monday so please park in far south end of lot area.

Tom request Chairs for the following: Parade. Roadrunner Store. Programs. Publicity, Claims, and Historian Please see Torn. 

Motion made and seconded to upgrade Clubs 8 Faceting Machines this summer with a new dial at cost of approximately $200 each for a total cost of $l,600.00  Motion Passed .. 

Club received a letter from Quartzsite Scbolars" Academy requesting funds to allow the school to purchase several dictionaries and thesaurus. There was a motion. and second to send Scholar's Academy $250.00.  After a discussion the motion was defeated. 

There was a motion made and seconded to purchase a new Vidor Ranger Torch at a cost of $400.00 for Casting Shop, Motion Passed.

A Motion was made and seconded to give each New Member and Renewal Member next fall a clear plastic name tag holder to wear at shop and 1 or 2 packets of Pow Wow ticket to sell, buy. or returned, Motion Pused 

Meeting was adjourned at 3:35 PM Cookies & Coffee were served in the Dinning Room
