NATIONS LARGEST ROCK AND GEM CLUB

Mission: To enhance the interest in the study of gems and minerals and to educate people to the wonders of the lapidary arts. To promote a better knowledge of nautural earth science and to protect our natural resources. Established in the 1960's with members from all 50 states, and many foreign countries.

  QUARTZSITE ROADRUNNER GEM & MINERAL CLUB GENERAL MEETING 
                                               March, 13 2008 
        
The meeting was called to order by Club President Tom White at 2:01 PM. 
Roll Call was completed with 6 officers present and 1 (Abbott) absent.                  
A moment of silence and Flag Salute were led by Bill. 
Club Members greeted one another & Tom recognized and welcomed Guest, Visitors, and New members. 
Scholarship committee introduced the four 2008 Club’s Scholarship winners to the members and each was awarded a certificate. 
Secretary’s Report was read & approved 
Treasurer’s Report Approved and filed for Audit. 
Instructor Report’s 
Lapidary-Joe reported 82 used the shop.  Next week is last week to have rocks cut.  Shop will close March 28th.  The 29th will be shop clean up at 9:00 AM with a Pot Luck Lunch to follow.  
Beginning Faceting-Bob stated next week is last Beginners class. He also needs people to help clear parking lot of rocks before permanent surface can be completed. 
Intermediate Faceting-Opie Intro 2  Open 12 Saturday Matinee 9  Next Saturday’s Matinee will be “Let there be light”.   Next week is final week of classes. 
Wire Wrapping-Ted 5 or 6 in both classes.  There will be only two more weeks of classes 
Chain Making-Pattie will not teach next year and classes for this year are finished. 
Silversmith-Ron & Dawn reported 77 used the Shop.   March 17th shop will only be open ½ day.  There will be instructors Tuesdays and Wednesdays but Mondays and Fridays no instructors.  
Casting-Terry 1 used the shop. 
Opal-Paul 12 
Carving-Linda 5 in class.  Linda presented a Carved Stone Bear to Larry as a thank-you for his donation of carving materials. 
Knapping-Virgil 3 in class. 
  
Committee Report’s 
Sunshine-Iola no card sent out but let her know if someone needs a card. 
Wagon Master-Russell reported 24 helped clean Celia’s Garden.  Next trip will be Tuesday March 18th and Alva Johnson will lead trip to Earp for Purple/Jasper Agate meet at north location. 
 4 Wheel Drive-Harry 6 cars, from 7 States, 14 people and 2 dogs went to the Southern Cross Mine area.  There will be no more 4 wheel trips until fall. 
Cookouts-John 30 members came to the last cook out for year at Celia’s Garden. 
  
Pancake Breakfast-Pat Breakfast this Saturday the 15th.   All helpers meet at shop on Friday at 4:00 for set up. 
  
Tailgate Sales will be in parking lot during Pancake Breakfast. 
  
Highway Clean up-Gene reported 29 people helped and 14 large bags of trash were collected. 
  
Roadrunner Store-Patty sold, 2 patches, 1pin, and 1Badge 
  
Old Business: 
Tom read a letter from the Faceting Machine Modification Vender but there were errors in letter therefore clarification is needed before action will be taken on agreement. 
New Business: 
Russ and Susan Sias will complete paper work for Club’s Claims and send into State to assure they are properly registered. 

Memorial information requested for Plaque outside of shop.  Please give information to Tom. 

Next Board Meeting Monday March 17th at 6:00pm at the shop. 

Life Memberships and Summer Custodian will be discussed at next Board Meeting. 

Over night reservations for Burro Creek Campground outing will be made for February 2009. 

Please turn in all keys and Petty Cash Banks before the end of Month. 

Volunteer needed to help with audit of Treasures Books.  Please see Tom. 

Tom still needs Committee Chairs for: Programs, Historian, Claims, Publicity, Roadrunner Store and Sunshine. 

Bill reported Silver Prices are up which will makes Silver Kit prices higher next fall. 

Membership-Jean reported no new Members.  Presently there are 836 members compared to last year there were 765 members 
 Attendance- 89 
 Door Prizes were awarded and Meeting was adjourned at 3:08 PM.
