Mission: To enhance the interest in the study of gems and minerals and to educate people to the wonders of the lapidary arts. To promote a better knowledge of nautural earth science and to protect our natural resources. Established in the 1960's with members from all 50 states, and many foreign countries.

  QUARTZSITE ROADRUNNER GEM & MINERAL CLUB  GENERAL MEETING

The meeting was called to order by Club President Tom White at 2:00 PM.

Roll Call was completed with 5 officers Present and 2 absent ( Stiglich & Bradley)      

­­­­­Moment of silence for our troops and the Flag Salute were led by Tom.

Club Members greeted one another and Tom recognized and welcomed Guest and Visitors.

Secretary’s Report was read approved and filed.

Treasurer’s Report Approved and filed for Audit.

Instructor’s Report’s:

Lapidary-Joe reported 70 used the shop this week.  The construction of roof on old Fire Station is almost complete. He still needs at least one volunteer each day to water down the parking lot.  

Silversmith Shop: No report

Carving-Linda said she had 5 people in her final class.

Knapping-Ernie reported 3 in his final class until fall.  There will be two knapping classes each week in the fall.  He will also teach one or more Rock tumbling classes next season.

Committee Report’s:
Sunshine-Iola there were no cards sent out this week but let her know if some one needs a card. 

Wagon Master Tom Whites trip to Plomosa Road for Green Banded Rhyolite had 15 cars, 26 people, and 9 states represented.  There will be no more trips until the fall.

Old Business:

Terry Paulsen’s proposed design plan for clubs new space in the Old Fire Station was approved as a working but not the final plan to allow some renovation work to be done this summer.

Silver Shops Ventilation Project has not been completed all though it was approved several years ago and needs to be made a priority in the fall.   Also the Saw shop need a ventilation system which will also be addresses in the fall.  Tom asked for a volunteer to head up the ventilation projects.

 Tom requested all keys be turned in immediately.

Shop Clean up will be Saturday March 29th at 9:00AM with a Pot Luck to follow.  Please bring a dish to share.

Tom requested names of members who have Passed Away in the last four years be given to him now or in the fall.   Those members’ names will be placed on Memorial Plaques placed outside of shop.  A request was made to include members who Past Away longer than four years ago which should also be included on the Plaques.  Request will be considered at next Board meeting.      

New Business:

Final Board Meeting until fall will be March 29th after Shop clean up.

 The “Good Day Mine” is currently for sale.  Please see Tom for Information.

Terry gave an update on the possible Golf Tournament Fund Raiser for the fall.  Issues and details will be addressed at next Board Meeting.

A list of names from the Saw Shop was read of those who have left Rocks and have not picked them up.  Please pick up rocks a soon as possible or rock will be used for club activities.

A Planning Bulletin from the BLM Yuma Office was read regarding Proposed Recourse Management and Final Environmental Impact Statement Reports.  Statements are for sale on CD for $75.00 or can be viewed on their Web Site at www.blm.gov/AZ
Roadrunner Store Patty reported no sales.  Patty was thanked for her longtime service in the Roadrunner Store.

Membership no change

Attendance- 58 attended the meeting.
Door Prizes were awarded by Tom White

Meeting was adjourned at 2:45 PM.
